THE QUIET CYCLIST: 08/12/17

The route to happiness is just simplifying your life!

I set out on an early evening journey to a quiet little ruin set in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales. Carrying on my back, a bag containing, sketch books, compact watercolour set, Moleskines, pencils, camera, flask of coffee and some snacks. As I meander down some quiet country lane, all I hear is bird song and the quiet burr of my electric motor on my electric bike. Arriving at my destination I pick my favourite spot, sheltered from any breeze or onlookers; not that there are any to speak of, its a quiet place. Writing an occasional diary entry of my visit, I sit and sketch, I am in no rush, only until the sun sets behind the hills. I take a break from the pencil and wander around the spooky old monastic ruins, wondering if it's haunted. All I can hear now are sheep, who quietly graze on the land around the abbey. My partner joins me a while later, walking our dog Spizzy, we stay longer and take in the atmosphere. The sun has now set and it's dark, we sit and watch the moon coming over the horizon, not quite full yet, it cuts through the trees making silhouettes, tree branches appear black an ethereal. The owls come out, hooting and screeching at one another, the temperature falls. It's time to head back, just a few miles up the road, nothing strenuous. We get back to base to our caravan, the warm light can be seen in the distance, only us and another visitor stand on the CL location. We step into our metal abode, waiting for us all warm and cosy. Get the kettle on!
